Join Committee

The main purpose of the Small Firm and Solo Committee is to assist those types of law firms in any way that the committee can. The Small Firm and Solo Committee is considered a Facilitator Committee and its purpose is to help coordinate projects and resources, remove barriers, monitor tasks, solicit participation, study needs and communicate with other Small Firm and Solo Committee members and Tax Section members.

Specific committee responsibilities:

  • Attend Tax Section meetings in person or by telephone if invited
  • Assist in maintaining the Small Firm and Solo Committee membership list
  • Write or provide an article, outline or form for publication in the Texas Tax Lawyer for at least 2 publications per year
  • Volunteer to be on the Committee to plan the Advanced Tax Law Course for the State Bar of Texas
  • Volunteer to assist with the Basic CLE courses sponsored by the Texas Tax Section each year in February by either speaking or serving as a support person
  • Find, research and develop a submission for COGS (Committee on Government Submissions) or assist another committee on a COGS project
  • Volunteer to review part of the 24/7 CLE Library to keep the library current
  • Volunteer or assist with any other Committee project that interests you

General committee responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain and apply procedures for informing solo and small firm practitioners of Section activities that may benefit them
  • Develop, maintain and apply procedures to solicit input from solo and small firm practitioners regarding the Section’s activities
  • Communicate the suggestions of solo and small firm practitioners to the Section officers and Council
  • Solicit input from solo and small firm practitioners regarding CLE topics that would be of most value to them and communicate the suggestions to the Section officers and chairs of the relevant substantive committees
  • Work with other solo and small firm practitioners to develop any additional roles that this committee should serve
